Supplier EDI
The Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the most efficient way for you to send and receive electronic business transactions.
This includes pricing, purchase orders (PO), PO confirmations, invoices, advance ship notifications (ASN), and sales reports. We use EDI at Dot to place orders with our supplier partners and communicate with our customers, buying groups, and brokers. It helps us improve service to all of our business partners.
EDI Benefits for Suppliers
Less Deductions
Price discrepancies and shortages can be identified, fixed prior to shipment and invoicing.
Reduced Labor Costs
Data is auto-captured, which lessens the chance for error and saves time for your team.
Better Customer Service
EDI provides up-to-date receipt paperwork, meaning less time is spent at the customer's dock.
Getting Started with EDI
If you don't have an in-house EDI team set up (or aren't ready to do so), we recommend hiring a third-party provider. Partnering with an EDI provider can offer EDI software solutions, expertise, and on-going support to ensure improved business efficiencies. While this is not a complete list, it can get you started searching for a reputable EDI partner.
Supplier EDI Transaction Sets and Requirements
Pallet Label Requirements and Sample
Our supplier partners must label all pallets sent to a Dot distribution center with a Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC). Review our requirements and see an example before shipping your first truck to us.
Dot's DUNS Number Requirements
We also ask our supplier partners to use the correct DUNS number in their EDI transaction sets to properly identify which Dot Foods distribution center their product is being shipped to. Review our U.S. and Canada DUNS numbers now.
Key Terms and Definitions

EDI
Electronic Data Interchange allows for sharing information (electronically instead of on paper), such as purchase orders, between partners using a consistent format.
Data Pool
Your data pool is the system you use to send and exchange item data through the GDSN. You must use a GS1-certified data pool to display your products on Dot Expressway.
Craving More Information?
GDSN
Sharing product details through the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) is the best way to provide our mutual customers with accurate data quickly and seamlessly.

Data Accuracy
Even a 1/4" height measuring error can cause major complications to the supply chain. By communicating accurate data through the GDSN, you can eliminate waste and increase efficiencies.

If you aren't a Dot Foods supplier, fill out our short form first. We can work together on EDI during your onboarding journey.
