Employees of Dot Foods celebrated Earth Day with a number of festivities to educate employees and their families on options for going "green."
On Wednesday, April 18, Dot hosted a money-saving "green" fair with informational booths sponsored by local organizations. Activities included "green" crafts for children, recycled sculpture contests, face painting and performances by the Rushville-Industry High School "Trash Can" Band. In the week leading up to the "green" fair, Dot hosted free community recycling of metal and electronics, "Lunch and Learns" for Dot employees and a clothing drive for area food pantries.
"We hope everyone in attendance had an opportunity to gain environmental knowledge," said John Long, senior vice president of warehousing and Dot sustainability chairperson. "Dot is very passionate about reducing our carbon footprint and the impact we have in our communities."
Informational booths were hosted by Ameren, Philips Lighting, University of Illinois Extension/Master Gardeners, Dot Human Resources, Dot Paper Reduction team, Scranton Heating & Cooling, Jennings Motors, Dot Recycle team, West Central Mass Transit District.
